A really unique thing about D-Link’s Wi-Fi Baby Cameras and Monitors is the ability to connect in three different ways, allowing you to take the camera anywhere and monitor at any time. Other baby monitors require you to be within a certain distance of the receiver unit and other Wi-Fi baby cameras require a connection to the home network but with D-Link’s Wi-Fi Baby Cameras and the free mydlink Baby app, there are no limits or restrictions!
At Home…
This type of connection is perfect for when you use your baby camera at home, when both the baby camera and your mobile device are connected to your home wireless network.
How to Use the At Home Connection Mode
- Plug in your Wi-Fi Baby Camera or Monitor
- Download the free mydlink Baby app
- Follow the setup wizard on your mobile device:
Connect your mobile device to the Wi-Fi network your baby camera by selecting “myBabyCam-xxxx” (xxxx is the last digits of your camera’s MAC address) from your mobile device’s Wi-Fi settings
- Create a name and password for your baby camera
- Connect your baby camera to your home network by selecting your router’s SSID and redirecting the mobile device to the same Wi-Fi network
- Choose to link your baby camera to your mydlink account (for remote access)
- Once setup is complete your camera will appear on the homepage of the app
- Select the camera and start monitoring!
Remotely…
This type of connection is best for on-the-go parents who want to check in on their little one back at home while they are at work, running errands or out on date night (lucky ducks).
How to Use the Remote Mode
- If you chose to use your mydlink account during initial setup, skip the next section and continue
- If you chose not to use mydlink during initial setup but want to register in order to view remotely, select ‘Join mydlink’ from homepage of app and get set up
- From the homepage of the app click on the mydlink Login icon in the top left
- Log in to your mydlink account
- Select the camera you would like to view remotely
Direct Connect…
With the direct connect mode you can connect your smartphone or tablet directly to your camera’s Wi-Fi network*, making your mobile device a dedicated “parental unit”. This mode along with the option to power your camera using a USB portable battery, means you can take your baby camera virtually anywhere – to a hotel, a friend’s house and even camping!
How to Use Direct Connect Mode
If you have done the initial setup of your Wi-Fi Baby Camera or Monitor:
- Press the designated ‘direct connect’ button on your camera for approximately 5 seconds
- For the DCS-825L it is the +/plus button on top – temperature LED ring will blink 3 times
- For the DCS-820L the ‘direct connect button is on the bottom – the cloud LED will start blinking blue
- On your mobile device, connect to the Wi-Fi Baby Camera or Monitor’s wireless network by selecting “myBabyCam-xxxx” (xxxx is the last digits of your camera’s MAC address) from your mobile device’s Wi-Fi settings
- Open the mydlink Baby app
- Select ‘View’ if taken to setup wizard page / select ‘Reconnect’ if taken to app homepage
- Start monitoring!
Note: To return to At Home mode, press the ‘direct connect’ button again for 5 seconds (for the DCS-825L press the –/minus button on top) to deactivate
If this is the first time using your camera:
- Plug in your camera
- Download the free mydlink Baby App
- On your mobile device, connect to the Wi-Fi Baby Camera or Monitor’s wireless network (should be myBabyCam-xxxx) and login with the password found on the bottom of the camera itself
- Open the mydlink Baby app
- If you do not wish to fully set up your camera at this time and only use in direct connect mode, select ‘View’
- Create a password for your camera (if prompted)
- Start monitoring!
So there you have it, a truly portable, easy-to-use baby monitor for the modern parent. However you want to connect, D-link has you covered!
*When using ‘direct connect’ mode your mobile device cannot access any internet-based applications (web pages, social network, etc) as the Baby Camera’s wireless network does not have internet access (much like a local area network).
