Greg May, Editor-in-Chief of TrulyGadgets.com and owner of The Uncommons, the coolest cafe in Manhattan, gave our Facebook Router (DIR-865L) a go at his café and was highly impressed. The Uncommons doesn’t just serve delicious food and great coffee, it also happens to be NYC’s first and only board game cafe so of course having great Wi-Fi was a necessity. Greg loved the router not only for it’s Wi-Fi capabilities but also because with every customer that connects, his business gets free promotion! As Greg explains, “The idea is simple: set up the D-Link Wireless AC1750 Dual Band Gigabit Cloud Router (the DIR-865L) and you can easily configure it so that free wireless access is available to customers, provided they check-in to your Facebook page first. Automatic sign-in means it’s not a hassle for customers either.”
The Facebook Router gives business owners the ability to control and limit their network, allowing customers to be on one network while employees and company devices can access a separate network. “We replaced a traditional 802.11n router, and connected it to our cable modem, and went through a few simple steps to give it access to our Facebook page.” And to make sure neighbors and Wi-Fi addicts don’t take too much advantage “you can set up a time limit – an hour or a day for example – that allows much better control of your network’s traffic.”
Another great benefit to having customers log in through Facebook is being able to target actual customers, “…the Facebook integration is actually pretty smart, giving business owners the ability to offer promotions and directly market”.
Now that The Uncommons has completed the trifecta of food, caffeine and Wi-Fi, business has been booming, “We’ve seen hundreds of new check-ins to our business page, from actual customers, and it’s been more stable and less likely to need rebooting than most other routers – important for a café where customers rely on the wi-fi”.
